Psyllium Husk According to Ayurveda

What is Psyllium Husk

Psyllium is a form of fiber made from the husks of the Plantago ovata plant’s seeds.  It’s most commonly known as a laxative, or to increase fiber intake for healthier bowel movements. However, research shows that taking psyllium is also beneficial to many parts of the human body, including the heart and the pancreas

It reaches its laxative effects when it forms into a gel, acting as a lubricant as it moves through the digestive tract. The increased water in the intestines helps soften stool and makes it easier for the colon to move the waste through the digestive tract to maintain regularity. Through this process, psyllium helps trap and remove waste that weighs you down. Feeling sluggish can be a sign, you need more fiber, and psyllium husk is a great solution.

Psyllium fiber gel in the gut also helps to trap bile and the cholesterol it contains inside the digestive tract, preventing it from being reabsorbed while it removes it as waste.

You may be especially prone to side effects if you're new to psyllium or if you take more than the recommended amount per day. Some of the possible side effects include abdominal pain and cramps.
